Bauta mask
Bauta mask
This historically Venetian costume mask from Venice is decorated with gold leaf. The Bauta mask is a typical mask that was used in 18th century Venice. The Bauta mask was worn during the carnival, but also in daily life and even in politics. A Bauta mask covers the whole face and has a mouth opening, which enables the mask carrier to drink.
The Bauta mask can be worn for masquerade ball, costume party, Mardi Gras, Venetian carnival, masked ball or Halloween. The Venetian mask has two ribbons for wearing.
This Bauta mask is also called Casanova mask. A man in 18th century Venice was forced to wear the mask during a nocturnal adventure in brothels and casinos.
In the 17th and 18th century men wore the Bauta mask along with the Tricorn hat from our section “Venetian costumes”. If you want to make this combination then choose a larger hat size because the mask falls under the brim of the hat.
