This is a blank Venetian papier-mâché mask of Il Dottore or The Doctor, who is a character from The Commedia dell’arte. The mask of Dottore is different from all the other masks of the Commedia dell’arte figures. It covers only his forehead and nose. His cheeks are reddened to show his fondness for red wines.Il Dottore was quite a pompous man who was very fond of his own voice. In a mix of quasi Greek and Latin, he fulminates against those who doubt his erudition. But he spends most of his time on drinking and making cruel jokes about the opposite sex.The blank papier-mâché masks can be painted and decorated by your own ideas and the white mask has two ribbons for wearing.
